Welcome to Rocksteady For Breakfast.
Introductions! Hello, I’m Kaylan. In high school, I wrote a ska zine entitled Spitvalve. Back then, I was stealing reams of paper and copying my manifesto on the school office’s xerox machine. Alas, it’s ten years later (!) and with this Tumblr-blog I hope to continue Spitvalve’s spirit and enthusiasm. Therefore, as I obsessively chronicle things anyway, I’m going to be focusing on overlooked gems in genres related to ska, dub, reggae, dancehall, rocksteady, and anything else with that lovely, charming two-tone beat.
On to our title track: Rocksteady Breakfast by Bad Manners. It appears on a 1994 compilation entitled Skinhead. So it’s not that rare (although it certainly is fatty), however it’s exactly the kind of song I want to put on while I make my toast and eggs with a generous amount of hot sauce. Enjoy!
